WOMBATS VICTORIOUS AS VICTORIANS DOMINATE YOKOHAMA (04/05/2008)

After 4 years of trying, Tokyo Wombats finally tasted victory at Yokohama, running over the silver spoons in a 9 wicket victory, more than making up for last year's Pup Match debacle. With the season proper upon there were pleasing signs for the Wombats, but disappointingly for the 4th warm-up game of the year, we still failed to get eleven Wombats on the track.

DINOSAUR HEROICS CAN’T AVOID NARROW DEFEAT TO JAPAN (20/04/2008)

JAPAN 6/252 (Chino 79, Ahmed 27, Beath 25, Giles-Jones 24*, Ainslie 2/47, Kelly 2/47) defeated TOKYO WOMBATS (Shearer 109*, Jones 37, Turner 23)

A lesson in cricket professionalism was handed to the Wombats, falling 20 runs short of Japan’s total, despite heroics from Jarrad 'Dinosaur' Shearer – scoring another ton for the club, which was towards the end a true monument to the human struggle, after keeping for 50 overs, then batting for all 50.

CM 6S: "BEST TOUR YET" DESPITE FINAL CHOKE!! (30/03 - 05/04/2008)

What they lacked in numbers and experience, they made up in intensity, as this year's Tokyo Wombats Chiang Mai Sixes Tour has been given a 'best yet" rating by the skipper and veteran, Marty Charlton. Missing stalwarts and never-say-die units like Andy Hall and Luke Ray didn't dent the enthusiasm of the tourists. In fact it may well have spurred them on.

THE LOGO
by Smokey (Barry Francis)

Rising Sun. Mount Fuji. A Wombat on one knee, flashing a square drive past the covers. It could only be The Tokyo Wombats Cricket Club.

Created by Barry Francis, this eye-catching logo is without doubt the best wombat logo you will see. The design process began in 2003 when I asked Barry if he could do us a few sketches. Happy to oblige the Club he plans to join in 2004, the young Englishman had just one question: "What's a wombat look like?"

Well, when the web pictures began arriving, Barry began regretting his generousity. Short, stubby legs, no neck, round and docile.....how do you turn that into a cricketer? Several forests were felled in the process, and Barry says "I never want to draw another wombat again!", but finally we arrived at the logo you see today. We had wombat chewing stumps, wombat biting bat, wombat climbing on a very big cricket ball, plus countless number of wombats that went straight in the bin.

A self confessed perfectionist, Barry was reluctant to show the boys any design he wasn't happy with himself. A set off designs presented to the AGM failed to satisfy the picky Wombats, but we reached a consensus on what we wanted: Rising Sun, Fuji, and a Wombat not eating anything.

A few weeks later we were presented with our new logo. In the interim, HARDYS, our sponsors, had agreed to supply us with cricket shirts, which will take delivery of this month. The Wombat logo will sit opposite the HARDYS logo on the players' chests, as we strive to bring home the Cups in 2004. Also on the way are TWCC caps, and if you havent ordered one, be quick, because they won't last long!

A big thanks again to HARDYS for the shirts, and to Barry for the design.
