Wommies out of the burrow

With what started from taking a quick trip down to the shops on the pushy to pick up a carton of milk all went horribly wrong when my brother took a wrong corner and now 25 000kms over a stretch of 18 months in a monster bicycle tour around Australia...

There are currently 5 grounds in the Kanto area (within a couple hours of Tokyo).

As you could imagine the game of cricket is very foreign to the Japanese society and local governments meaning grounds are scarce and usually in out of the way

Edogawa or Koiwa ground (Tokyo) is for the majority of us Tokyoites the most convenient ground located on the banks of Edogawa river in Tokyo's Edogawa-ku (ward). The ground is maintained by the local government and regularly used by expat and local clubs.

A view of Koiwa with it's unique behind the stumps outfield.

Directions : Sobu line East towards Chiba from Tokyo and get off at Koiwa station (8 stations from Akihabara), turn left at the ticket gates (only one). Either take a taxi or bus #72 to Edogawa Byoin (hospital) or bus stop. Climb over the embankment and you'll see the cricket ground a few hundred metres to the right just before the rugby grounds.

Fuji #1 & Fuji #2 (West of Tokyo)
Japan's premier grounds. 2 full time cricket grounds with good astro decks, side by side. Hosted World Cup Qualifiers in '04. Practise nets as well! Allow 2+ hours from Tokyo.

Directions : Directions to the Fuji grounds

Gunma (North of Tokyo)
Down by the river with plenty of space and a hard, flat base for the roll out pitch.

Directions : Find the link to the Gunma ground directions on the KCA schedule at: Directions to the Gunma ground

Shizuoka (South West of Tokyo)

Nice grassy ground with decent hill views for 180 degrees and alongside Abe river.

Directions : From Yoga IC it takes a comfortable 1.5 hours. Take the Tomei highway and exit at Shimizu (after Shizuoka exit). After coming thru toll booths take the right road (only 150 metres from booths) and follow this road until you have gone thru Shizuhatayama tunnel (about 15-20 minutes from Shimizu exit). Then follow this map.

Yokohama County & Athletics Club (YC&AC) ground is generally ranked as the best in the Kanto area. It sports a quality facility, with good grassy ground. All games played here are against the local club YC&AC C.C. Click here for map

Grounds rumoured to be coming are Kawasaki, Saitama and Ichihara (Chiba)
